Surprising Benefits of Outdoor Learning

A recent study showed that outdoor learning isn’t just fun, but it helps students to focus much better once they return indoors for their next class. Results showed that students were significantly more engaged in their next instructional period on all measures than when they were only instructed indoors. In fact, teachers only had to redirect half as often both outside and in the next indoor class as usual. As a group, the children paid attention better as if they had a synergy happening.

It only takes a patch of green grass

By the way, the teaching didn’t have to occur deep in nature as we might think. The study discovered that the same benefits happened simply by taking the students to a very ordinary patch of green grass just outside the school. Install some benches for comfort and you’re ready to go.
